The Evidence of the Dead Body. On Moral Consciousness and Legal Practice in the Qing China

The article is a case history study. Basing on well-documented criminal of 1809, the author explores such issues as corruption in ranks Chinese officials; effectiveness severe punishments for crime prevention; methods offences were committed and investigated Qing empire, level public awareness these methods; principles sentencing; issue punishment mass consciousness late 17th early 19th centuries. Special attention paid to remarkable phenomenon fictionalizing real incident witness reports, i.e. introduction popular moral, didactic religious motifs widely known folklore literature that time.
